If you go on a cruise ship vacation, chances are one of the most important parts of your vacation will be the excursions, that’s when you actually get off the ship and go canoeing, or paragliding, or parasailing at the destination. However, it’s important to note that those excursions are not run by the cruise ship company. Even if you’ve paid through them, even if you booked through them, in the mass majority of cases, those are third-party entities that are run by foreign corporations.
However, it’s important to not that federal law allows you to have some protections and the ability to sue the cruise ship company yourself if you’re injured through these third-party negligent companies. You can do that because Congress says that the cruise ship company has an obligation to you to pick reasonable safe excursion operators. If they fail to do that and you are injured as a result, you have the ability to collect against the American-based cruise ship company that you bought a ticket from.
