West Palm Beach, FL – Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, PLLC is pleased to announce that Managing Partner Gary S. Lesser has joined the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County.
Lesser, immediate past President of The Florida Bar, has been involved with Legal Aid since he joined his father at the firm 31 years ago. He has co-chaired and emceed the non-profit’s annual Pro Bono Recognition Evening, and the firm has been a sponsor for many years.
“It is my honor to serve on the Board of Directors of Legal Aid, which provides legal assistance to those in need in our community who might otherwise not receive any guidance,” Lesser said. “The work done by Legal Aid changes and sometimes saves people’s lives.”
Bob Bertisch, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, said Lesser’s commitment to the organization made him an ideal candidate for the Board of Directors.
“Gary has been a longtime supporter and advocate for our mission of ensuring equal access to our judicial system to the most vulnerable and at-risk children, families, seniors, veterans and individuals in our community,” Bertisch said. “We are excited to have him join the Legal Aid Board of Directors.”
The Legal Aid Society started in 1949 with one attorney whose purpose was to give free legal advice to the economically disadvantaged. Today, they employ a staff of 120 people who help clients gain many of life’s most basic needs and rights: living in a safe home, getting enough food to eat, earning a quality education, and being protected against exploitation and discrimination.
