After volunteering at a Surfers for Autism (SFA) event two years ago, Kim Tenney’s eyes were opened to the power surfing has in helping autistic children. A teacher at St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Oviedo, FL, Kim teaches several autistic children, and she decided to share the SFA’s mission with the St. Luke’s Chapel offering board. She showed her students an SFA YouTube video educating them on what SFA does for autistic children. After seeing the video, the children were excited and worked together to raise almost $2,500 for the organization.
“The kids took it from there. They (the children) truly wanted to support Surfer’s For Autism’s mission and the kids they serve,” stated Mrs. Tenney
Mrs. Tenney recently contacted SFA located in Stuart, Florida, to give them the incredible news about the close to $2,500.00 donation that the children collected to support the SFA mission. Lesser Lesser Landy & Smith partner Chad Hastings, who serves as that Chairman of the Board for SFA, traveled to Oviedo on February 19th, 2020 to accept the check and personally thank the children for their help on behalf of the thousands of autistic children who participate in SFA event each year. Chad Hastings explained, “When I saw Ms. Tenney’s email telling us that her students in Oviedo raised almost $2,500.00 for SFA, I was so grateful. SFA works hard to provide children with autism therapeutic surfing adventures all throughout Florida every year. For a group of children to see what we do, see the benefits and become so inspired to raise money, is nothing short of incredible.”
