This February, during Hit-and-Run Awareness Month, we remind you of the importance of hiring a personal injury attorney who knows the ins and outs of insurance coverage.

If you are hit by a vehicle that flees the scene or an uninsured motorist, you may think you are out of luck.

And you may be. But, if you have the protection of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UM), you can make a claim under that coverage. Such coverage is available even when there is a hit and run situation and you are unable to identify the specific vehicle involved.

But what if you did not purchase UM coverage? Are you also out of luck? Again, you may be, but our lawyers are very skilled in finding coverage that many other lawyers miss.

However, Gary and Mickey required the insurer to produce documentation that this coverage had affirmatively been rejected, as required by Florida law.

We kept the insurance company’s feet to the fire, and they admitted that they could not prove our client had rejected this coverage. They then extended UM coverage for six different vehicles – even though our client never paid a penny for any such coverage.

While this is not the norm, we are typically able to obtain UM coverage under similar circumstances for our clients multiple times a year.
