In May 2017, attorney Josh Ferraro and a group of local community leaders joined forces with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office to create Martin County Police Athletic League (MCPAL). The program is designed to pair good cops with good kids and provide a safe environment in which they can develop new friendships and become productive members of society.
- This fall, three boxers from the Martin County PAL made their boxing debut at the Florida PAL State Boxing Championships in Palatka, FL. Hundreds of amateur boxers from throughout the state showed up to compete in the biggest amateur tournament of the year. Captain John Perez (Martin County Sheriff’s Office), Lauren Betsinger (Martin County Sheriff’s Office) and Noel DelValle (Executive Director MCPAL) are all extremely proud of how the 3 young men performed.
“This program has been amazing. A group of us saw a need for a safe place for children to go to in Martin County where they could participate in sports and mentoring activities. Working with the Sheriff’s office and a group of dedicated volunteers we were able to make that vision into a reality,” said MCPAL President Joshua Ferraro.
