TikTok may have made you want to buy it, but there’s a chance your BlendJet 2 could be one of the 4.8 million portable blenders recently recalled due to fire and laceration concerns.
The portable blenders sold at Costco, Target and Walmart were recalled after the company received reports of blades breaking off, as well as the product overheating or catching fire. This resulted in dozens of injuries.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, BlendJet 2 received 329 reports of blades that broke off while the blender was in use, and an additional 17 reports of overheating or fires that resulted in property damage claims of roughly $150,000. The company also received 49 reports of minor burn injuries and one laceration injury.
The recalled products were sold in stores and online from October 2020 through November 2023 and contain serial numbers where the first four digits range between 5201 to 5542. Consumers are urged to stop using the blenders and to contact BlendJet for a free base unit replacement.
Filing a Product Liability Claim
What can you do if you were harmed by this or another consumer product?
You may be able to file a product liability lawsuit. In product liability claims, an injured person may be able to hold the designer, manufacturer, or retailer of the product accountable. Most product liability lawsuits are strict liability claims, which means you will not need to prove that the defendant was negligent. Rather, the mere fact that the defendant made or sold the product and that it caused injuries is sufficient for liability.
